It was an honour to host Dr Faith Mwangi-Powell, the CEO of Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage (GNB), and share our story and the impact we are making through scholarships and training for girls in schools and universities. “So delighted to spend the day with our members in Uganda, amazing work that Education & Development Opportunity – Uganda do,” Dr Mwangi-Powell posted on her X account. “Great to meet girls with large dreams; very inspiring. Keep up the great work, EDOU,” she added.
Dr Mwangi-Powell was in Uganda in November for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening the movement to accelerate efforts to end child marriage in Uganda.
We have been members of GNB and Girls Not Brides Uganda Partnership (GNBU) since 2016. GNBU has a membership of 132 civil society organisations, maximising synergy to end child marriage in Uganda.
EDOU became the first member organisation of GNB in Uganda the GNB CEO ever visited. “This was a landmark moment for us, an honour,” remarked Brian Mutebi, EDOU’s executive director.
We thank Dr Mwangi-Powell for coming to the grassroots; it makes all the difference.
