We are members of Girls Not Brides Global Partnership and Girls Not Brides Uganda Partnership, an alliance of 105 civil society organisations maximizing synergy to end child marriage in Uganda. In Uganda, one in four girls aged 15-19 is either pregnant or had a baby. Only one in 10 is able to return to school after giving birth but married underage where they face risks of domestic violence. We work to bring child marriage to national attention, and take proactive interventions to end the archaic practice through advocacy for stronger legislation and enforcement of laws meant to protect girls, and programs and policy development particularly access to education.
The Girls Not Brides Uganda Partnership are the convenors of the annual National Girls Summit. The Girls Summit provides a platform for government representatives, civil society, UN agencies, the private sector, academia, religious and traditional leaders to speak out on violence against girls, raise awareness and catalyse positive attitude, behaviour and actions that foster peace and good wellbeing of children and ultimately end child marriage and teenage pregnancies in Uganda.
We have contributed to capacity building of the Partnership as well as the National Strategy to End Child Marriage. We have been members of the Partnership since 2016. In 2019, we were elected to the Partnership’s National Steering Committee.
